The Maryse and Ramsey Mikhail Lecture is always good. This year a scholar from Columbia University, Dr. Lila Abu-Lughod, will speak on “Do Muslim Women Need Saving?” Details here.
This is a great series that is sponsored by the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and the Blade. The line-up is really strong this year. Some of these will be very popular and will sell out (especially the ones that are held at the Main Library). If you are interested I'd act soon. Student tickets are $8.
Marjane Satrapi Wednesday, October 22, 2014 Main Library, 7 p.m. This will be a great one. This Iranian woman wrote a very popular graphic novel called Persepolis (and a sequel) that was made into a movie. The book is great. You should consider it.
Trailer for the movie.
Isabel Wilkerson Wednesday, March 18, 2015 Main Library, 7 p.m. Can't wait for this one too. She wrote an absolutely amazing book about the Great Migration of African-Americans from the south. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
Sandra Cisneros Wednesday, April 22, 2014 Stranahan Theater, 7 p.m. You know her of course. She wrote this!
